The week of March 29th through April 3rd was the annual competition between Greek organizations on SLU’s campus known as Greek Week. This year, Kappa Alpha Theta had the pleasure to be paired with two fraternities, Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Tau Kappa Epsilon. The theme of this year’s Greek Week was “Super-Greeks” and our team represented the Avengers. Every day of Greek Week has a different event, and a different way to earn points. Some events raised money for the Little Bit Foundation (the philanthropy changes every year), and we also collected canned goods to donate to the St. Patrick's Center. Starting Tuesday night, the first event was the kick-off which included food, an introduction for the rest of the week, and a video competition. Wednesday was the CANstruction event. Each team competed to make the best CANstructions for their team using their team’s theme and the best CANstruction won! These canned goods were collected and donated to the St. Patrick’s Center. On Thursday, we participated in the Greek Games which is like a field day with different yard games. This event included games like tug-of-war, relay races, balloon toss, etc. On Friday, during Greek-a-palooza, which is the dance and skit competition, Theta’s own Rachel Thomas and TKE’s Elijah Korneffel were crowned Mr. and Mrs. Greek Week! On Saturday, was the Greek Week Ball, hosted by the Multicultural Greek Council, where we got dressed up for a Great Gatsby Themed dance! After the many events throughout the week, Theta, TKE, and SAE were crowned Greek Week Champions at the Order of Omega awards on Sunday, April 3rd for receiving the most points throughout the week! Greek Week is not all about the competition. This week brings together all of the Greek organizations to create a Greek unity on SLU’s campus. We work together to raise money for our individual philanthropies. At the end of the week, collectively, our team donated close to $800 and donated over 1000 cans!
“Greek Week is one of my favorite events! I look forward to it every year. The reason that I love Greek Week so much is because it gives us the opportunity to get to know other fraternity men, as well as bond without sisters. Some of my closest friends today are the result of Greek Week.” –Sarah
“My favorite part of Greek Week is Greek-a-palooza, the dance competition. It’s always so fun to work with the guys and it takes a ton of preparation so it’s a great way to meet new people and strengthen friendships. I’m also always amazed at every team’s creativity and skill – we truly have a talented Greek community!” –Madeleine M.
“Greek Week was such a fun experience that made me feel not only closer to my chapter, but to the Greek community as a whole!” –Laurel
