On Saturday, March 29th, we hosted our first Leading Women Spotlight brunch! Thetas’ moms, sisters, aunts, cousins, and friends came to SLU’s campus to celebrate a day honoring leading women in our lives, as well as the greater community. At the event, Betsey Bruce was the keynote speaker. Betsey is a broadcast journalist and a Theta who graduated from the Alpha Mu chapter at University of Missouri. She spoke to us about what it means to her to be a leading woman. She not only began college during the first big wave of female students, she also worked in journalism - a field that was largely dominated by males. Betsey talked a lot about what it was like being a female journalist and how much it helped to have her Theta sisters by her side.
We also heard from Tory Freese, who works in fundraising for Theta Foundation, an organization started by Thetas for Thetas. Along with CASA, Theta Foundation is our philanthropy. Annually, the Foundation awards 200 scholarships to Thetas across the globe. We think it is pretty neat that that we are not just only helping kids through CASA, but also our very own sisters by supporting Theta Foundation.
Thanks to our speakers and to all the guests that made it! We are so thankful for the leading women in our lives that encourage, strengthen, and support us every day.
We are the Eta Omega chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta at Saint Louis University. We were established on November 9th, 2013. We have over 180 wonderful sisters that are alike in many ways but all with unique interests. Our blog will highlight many of these.
