Happy Founder’s Day from Eta Omega! Today we have the opportunity to reflect on the amazing sisterhood that began in 1870 and the women who created it. Our founders, Bettie Locke Hamilton, Alice Allen Brant, Bettie Tipton Lindsey, and Hannah Fitch Shaw, created the first Greek-letter fraternity among women with the mission of building a system of friendship and support among the women of Indiana Asbury College (now DePauw University). In a time when higher education for women was still uncommon and often rejected by their male coeds, our founders created a supportive space that allowed them to succeed in all facets of their college experience and beyond. They lifted each other up and sought excellence in all they did.
Our chapter celebrated Founder’s Day by hosting a brunch on January 23 with the local alumnae chapter. Together we honored our founders and our own local Thetas, including this year’s senior class and the alumnae chapter Theta of the Year. In a very special countdown to the 150th anniversary, each of the next four years will be dedicated to our four founders, starting with Bettie Tipton Lindsey. We are very excited to celebrate our beloved fraternity and look forward to continuing the tradition for years to come!
